Bol.com expands its product range with home electronics

Webshop Bol.com adds another product to his webshop. After toys and electronics the online store now adds home appliances to its product range.

Marketing boss Michael Schaeffer says Bol.com will bring a complete offer on the market. “It is a broad and deep range of products divided into three sections: Kitchen, Household and Personal Care. These three sections are divided in 52 categories. Then you are talking about between 3,000 and 5,000 products." When we go live there will be 2,400.

Concretely it means that Bol.com from today, alongside books, music and games also sells vacuum cleaners, air conditioners, grilling plates, toothbrushes and scales.

"It takes time and money to develop a shop, in this case with household electronics. Steps like this we only take when we are convinced that we can take a significant position in the market." Schaeffer does not give any revenue forecasts but he does make an estimate of the total turnover in the Dutch market for home appliances: between 350 and 400 million euros.

New slogan
With the new product Bol.com also strengthens her position and says goodbye to the payoff "The biggest media store in the Netherlands'. De nieuwe pay off wordt 'Bomvol winkels, bomvol voordeel'. The new slogan is 'Bomvol winkels, bomvol voordeel', which as much as "Loaded stores, lots of advantage".

Bol.com recorded a 2010 turnover of 318 million euros, an increase of 14 percent over the previous year.

Belgian market
Since September 2010 the Dutch department store has focused increasingly on Belgium. At the E-shop Expo in March this year, Hidde van der Louw, Head of Category Management bol.com and responsible for the e-commerce activities in Belgium, gave a presentation on the experience of bol.com after half a year of active online shopping in Belgium.
