Email Marketing: many opportunities remain untapped
Email marketing offers many opportunities to get more out of relationships and generate better conversion rates. Customer life cycle campaigns are a tool for customer-oriented approach and to encourage (repeat) purchases. This form of
email marketing is however not so common among webshops:
- 99% of retailers does not send welcome message to new e-mail subscribers
- 69% of retailers do not sent abandoned shopcart e-mails
There are still many untapped opportunities. Webshops collect valuable information via their e-commerce platform, but this information is hardly used for further interaction with clients. Often this is the case because the e-commerce platform offers no e-mail marketing activities.
Development of new Magento plugin
Through a new link with the marketing software of Copernica Magento stores can now conduct powerful and professional email marketing. The plugin ensures that relevant information such as registration, customers, orders and shopping carts from an online store will automatically be synchronized with the central
database.
Using this plugin makes it a lot easier to compose targeted email campaigns as abandoned shop cart mails or cross-and up-sell campaigns based on previous purchases or items from the shopping cart. Customers will receive only information relevant to them, creating a higher value of attention, involvement and ultimately conversion.
Relevance is enhanced by segmentation in the database and further customization (using dynamic content) within e-mail campaigns. The Magento plugin uses XML feeds, which includes the product information of new products . This creates opportunities for further customization in for example cross- and up-sell mailings.

Upsell, operator of several online shops, uses the Magento plugin. The organization wants to fuel the Belgian e-commerce revolution. Jelle Stas, co-owner of Upsell explains:

To continue to grow, we must continue investing in our customers: register customer data and interests and review their surfing and buying behaviour. We just finished setting up the databases, abandoned shop cart mails and newsletters for all our websites. The first results look good and we are very excited about the further developments."
