Market group discountsites doubles
In 2011 the turnover of the many group discountsites in the United States is estimated to rise to 2.66 billion. This represents an increase of 138 percent. That says Local Offer, an aggregator of more than 1,500 group discountsites, based on research within its network in the first quarter of 2011.
In the first three months of this year, 117 new discountsites have been launched. That is approximately double the number of new players compared to 2010. Not all these new players last. Nearly 25 percent of the new sites is taken over by other sites or disappears.
Increase in number of deals
The number of offers continues to rise sharply. Supposedly more than 63,000 offers were published in 2010 in the United States. By the end of the first quarter of this year that number should reach nearly 40,000. Groupon is responsible for almost half of these offers.
With the arrival of more luxury offers, the average price rises as well.
Category Food and drinks most popular
Most offers can be found in the category of food and drink (27 percent), the category of beauty, spa and massage is good for 19 percent. At a joint third place comes the fitness category by 7 percent and sport and recreation also 7 percent.
