Sweden and Denmark replace stamps by SMS

Sweden's National Post, Posten AB, will replace stamps by text messages. This year a pilot project will start. The postal company borrowed the idea from its Danish neighbours where a similar initiative will be launched on April the 1st. Users can text a message to a special number, after which they receive a numeric code that they should write on their letter.

When the pilot project will be launched in Sweden, is not known exactly.

The system that the Swedish Post intends to introduce is meant for letters and parcels up to two kilograms. According to Posten AB the risk of abuse is as large as in the classic stamps and the prices will remain the same.
